Audi TT is a small coupe built by Audi from 1998 to 2023. TT was the first production sports car for Audi. It has two generation models while retaining its shape with smaller dimensions.

TT stands for Tourist Trophy from Isle of Man.

Audi TT comes either FWD or AWD under Quattro system and both inline-4 and inline-5 including turbocharged with stratified injection from 8J to 8S uses an EA888 from Volkswagen. 3.2-litre VR6 phased out in last third-gen TT (as 8S). Inline engines are five-valves per cylinder; four-valves per cylinder in VR6. 2-litre common rail diesel briefly in second-gen TT still uses AWD. 8N marks the introduction being a first sports car to equip with DSG gearbox but revised under as S-tronic both 8J and 8S.

Early MY first-gen TT (8N) are prone to serious faulty in safety as other issues like steering but addressed in the following MY. This Quattro models exclusively with VR6 engine but naturally-aspirated this follows to 8J with optional turbocharged inline-4 and inline-5 with TT RS. 8S TT quattro now in inline engines.

Body reshape remains untouched but being revised notably in B-pillar now includes facelift MY models.

The TT ended the production in February 2023 with the limited Final Edition. This also followed the R8 in May 2023.

In Top Gear, the car received a mixed reception.

Appearances[]

  • On original Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson criticized the TT for lacking the proper materials of sportscar, more notably criticizing it's handling and lack of progressive steering.
  • In Series 3, Episode 2, Jeremy tests the V6 powered TT, praising its double-clutch gearbox but criticizing the rest of the package, stating it was pointless and too expensive. Round the Top Gear Test Track, The Stig sets a slow lap of 1:32.8.
  • In Series 6, Episode 8, Jeremy chooses the V6 powered TT cabriolet in a Three Car Comparison in Iceland against Richard and James in the cabriolet versions of the Nissan 350Z and Chrysler Crossfire. The TT ends up winning James' respect and vote due to it's four-wheel drive system and build quality, however Jeremy and Richard accuse it of being too dull, which James later agrees with.
  • In Series 9, Episode 2, Jeremy chooses the new TT as the best coupe under £25,000, against James in the Alfa Romeo Brera and Richard in the Mazda RX-8. Despite finding the new car a significant improvement over the original and it setting the fastest lap of 1:31.4 at the hands of The Stig around the Top Gear Test Track, Jeremy stated he'd rather own the Brera.
  • While heading over to Croatia to make their Unscripted film, Clarkson chooses the TT RS, while Hammond chooses the Ariel Nomad and May builds a fire engine out of a Lada Riva. Clarkson falls in love with the TT RS, praising it's performance, handling, speed, noise and excitement, stating it was the car the TT should've always been. The TT RS also managed to outperform the Nomad in a drag race and rally race.
