The Stig's Australian Cousin.

Not to be confused with Top Gear Australia's Stig.

The "Australian Stig" is one of The Stig's many cousins, and was featured in Top Gear UK's Series 22, Episode 2.

In S22E2, the presenters visited Australia's Northern Territory in GT cars. At the Frances Creek Quarry, they were challenged to race a benchmark time on an uphill incline course. When Clarkson guessed the benchmark would be set by the Stig, May instead introduced "The Stig's Australian cousin." Appearing from behind a massive mine lorry, this Stig, wearing dirty white coveralls and thong sandals, was itself noticeably "big" in musculature, stature, and in terms of its "sausage" as pointed out by Clarkson. For at least one of these traits, it was nicknamed "Big Stig" which it shares with its American counterpart.

Aussie Stig set a benchmark lap time of the quarry track of 1:17.8 in a HSV Maloo. Clarkson's BMW completed the course in 1:31.6, Richard's Bently 1:18.6, and May's GTR in 1:13.3: outperforming Australian Stig by over 4 seconds. However, unbeknownst to the other presenters, James cheated by smuggling The (English) Stig in the boot and swapping places with him.
