Though not traditionally known as such, in recent years there have been attempts, both official and unofficial, to ascribe names to every episode of Top Gear for ease of identification.

There are three types of episode names on this list:

  • BBC Names are the names given to the episodes on the Top Gear section of BBC's official website. Only season 2 and 5 have individual names per episode.
  • Top Gear Names are the names given to the episodes on Top Gear's own website.
  • Unofficial Names are the names given to the episodes on websites such as Trakt and TVDB.
  • Motortrend Names are the names given to the episodes when licensed for Motortrend OnDemand[1]. They are also used on the IMDB[2] website.

  • The Top Gear website's usage of "The one with..." designation is a homage to the '90s American sitcom Friends, of which former host Matt LeBlanc played male lead Joey Tribbiani.
