"I don't think I can ever remember owning a car where my head's been thrown back..."
Damon Hill on the 575M
The Ferrari 575M Maranello is the name given to a grand tourer produced by Ferrari. In production from 2002 - 2006, the model was essentially a facelifted version of its predecessor, the 550 Maranello.
- In Series 1, Episode 4, Jeremy compared the 575M Maranello against the Aston Martin Vanquish, alongside ex-Formula 1 driver Damon Hill at the Isle of White. Both drivers ultimately prefer the Ferrari, which they deem to be a better car, due to it's better gearbox and more sharp steering. At the Hands of the Black Stig the 575M sets a very wet lap of 1:35.2 at the Top Gear Test Track.
- In Series 5, Episode 4, Jeremy once again compared 575M GTC against the revised Aston Martin Vanquish S, alongside actor Steve Coogan at the Top Gear Test Track. This time however, despite both admitting that the Ferrari was a better car, they utimately preferred the Aston, due to it's more soulful and flawed personality. The Stig set a time of 1:26.8 round the track.
- In Series 8, Episode 2, during his review of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Jeremy questions why it's so much cheaper than the 575, despite both cars having similar performance, styling and drama. He later concluded that it was due to the Ferrari's road manners.
