The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is a Grand Tourer produced by Ferrari. It replaced the Ferrari 575 Maranello in 2006 but was replaced in 2012 by the much prettier and much more powerful Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

The 6.0L V12 produces 612bhp resulting in the 599 accelerating from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and topping out at 205mph. It cost £185,000.

When Ferrari introduced the 599 GTO, it produced 670bhp making it the most powerful Ferrari ever at the time. The car would do 208mph, and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

Ferrari would also set a Nurburgring lap record of 6:58 in the 599XX before Pagani destroyed that time with the Zonda R.

The 599 was the last V12 Ferrari that comes with a manual gearbox and also as a car model line-up.

Appearances[]

  • The 599 GTB was first reviewed by Jeremy in Series 10, Episode 3. While he praised the cars ease, speed, handling and technology, he criticized it's false practicality and not being as special as true Ferrari should be and, given the choice, would rather spend £185,000 on a 275 GTS. Despite his criticism the 599 sets a lap time of 1:21.2 around the Top Gear Test Track.
  • Jeremy later tested the 599 GTB in Clarkson: Supercar Showdown, arriving at the same conclusion, technically a masterpiece, but not very special.
  • The 599 took part in a supercar fuel tank race in Series 11, Episode 1 conducted by Jeremy. Despite performing well initially, it was the first to run out of fuel after 1.7miles.
  • In Clarkson: The Italian Job, Jeremy tested the 599 GTO at Maranello. Nicknaming the car "Kato" he slated it's difficult traction system and it's psychopathic nature, with it failing to keep up with the cheaper, prettier and more delicate Ferrari 458 Italia. Jeremy concluded that the GTO "wasn't Ferrari's finest hour" and that despite costing twice as much as the 458 wasn't even half as good.
  • In Series 16, Episode 2 after looking at the 250 and 288 GTO respectively, Jeremy reviewed the 599 GTO. Like before, he found it impossible drive with zero traction control and violent to drive with traction control. He slated the car, and stated it wasn't worthy of carrying the GTO name. The GTO set a lap time of 1:19.8, almost 0.7 seconds slower than the 458 Italia.
  • In Top Gear: At The Movies the 599 takes place in the best engine sound competition, representing the V12s alongside the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. James praises it's differentiating soundtrack but it ultimately never features in the top four.
