"These flagship Fords gave the man in the street affordable luxury, and the Zephyr went on to be one of the most significant cars of its era, perfectly defining a brave new world of post-war optimism."
- Quentin Willson on the Zephyr and Zodiac
The Ford Zephyr and Zodiac were British saloon cars produced by Ford from 1951 to 1972, with the aim of bringing an American image to British roads, in addition to bringing luxury features to the common man. Affectionately known as the Z-cars, these would enjoy three highly successful generations, before a less-than-stellar fourth generation ended production 21 years after it begun.
Appearances[]
Series 1, Episode 1 (The Car's The Star)[]
The very first episode of Quentin Willson's spinoff show The Car's The Star would be centred around the Ford Zephyr and Zodiac models. He remarked about how these two cars set new standards for family saloons and brought luxury to those of lower backgrounds, and chronicled their rise and fall by interviewing a wide variety of fans for these two cars, from a schoolgirl to an elderly former female rally driver.
