Hyundai S-Coupé is a small 2-door coupe built by Hyundai. The S-Coupé is the alternatively spelt model branding used in the UK (and on the European continent) whereas other market simply badged ironically as the Scoupe. Scoupe is a portmanteau, combining the words "sporty" and "Coupé". Although, the rear badging actually has a stylized "S" presumably to lessen the subjection of puns.

The engine options only consist of inline-4 engines that were naturally-aspirated (including one being sourced from Mitsubishi) and Hyundai's own turbocharged Alpha powerplant. Turbocharged S-Coupés were only available on the Australian, South Korean and US markets with re-worked engines, and other mechanical changes.

The S-Coupé is one of many cars that are nearly impossible to find in fully intact condition or ones that haven't been maintained properly. It is believed that only a few are still on the road. By the end of its production in 1996, The S-Coupé was replaced by the Tiburon (simply known as the Coupé in Europe), with its Coke bottle styling cues.

Appearances[]

  • In the Teenage Car Challenge, Richard Hammond picks the S-Coupé, with his modification being the badly built body kit which later breaks loose on the rear bumper as he climbs the hill after James May (in the Golf) on the Festival Test and was the quietest on the parking test with 50 dB. His car was modified once again with a bonnet scoop and a striped vinyl. However, in the Lap of Crashes, he collides with the silver Passat, and passes out unconscious from the crash. All of his points are stripped out as a result.
