Lancia Delta is a small hatchback built by Italian automaker Lancia. Lancia is well-known being a very competitive in rally an early era of the 4WD adapted from the Audi Quattro, Delta is one of the other rally cars compete in Group B era and only competes Group A due to the series of disastrous crash where being too powerful and too dangerous. With a Group A rules Delta becomes successful in WRC winning manufacturers title from 1987 to 1992.
First-gen Lancia keeps it's boxy shape, in facelift version receives only minor look, in mid-year production headlamp replaces a two rounded scrapping the square shape. FWD engines displaces at 1.1 to 1.6-litre all naturally-aspirated except in 1.6-litre which has a turbocharged variant and additional 2-litre for 4WD; turbocharged 1.6-litre in FWD and 1.9-litre for diesel. The 4WD version is purposely homologation for rallying under the 4WD variant HF-series.
In Group B version under as S4 run by Martini Racing, headlamps are bug-eye with a bit longer front wing. Engine is mid-mounted and 4WD. However, upon the introduction of Group A after the Group B was banned engine configuration shifted back to transverse front-mounted including drivetrain with newly 2-litre turbocharged after the launch of the HF 4WD version, thus Delta continues to compete WRC until 1993 briefly in ERC as a result being outclass with a succesful Toyota Celica GT-Four which ended the dominance. A limited HF Integrale and Evoluzione also built until 1991.
A cabriolet and coupe version is also built until 1996 for Hyena by Zagato. Second-gen models with a bit rounded style drivetrain uses only FWD. Newly 1.6 to 2-litre engine offered (including turbocharged in 2-litre with HF). It retains 1.9-litre turbo-diesel. 1.8-litre added the VVT system. Suspension system is revised, All trims are 5-speed manual gearbox. In 1999, Lancia discontinue the Delta with no replacement but returned in 2008. Third-gen Delta body design is much exotic with increase dimension. All engines are turbocharged sourced from Fiat including Multijet diesel. However, UK models badged as Chrysler as a result of the economic downturn. Safety rating is slightly improved. In 2015, Delta was permanent ceased in production, some rumors that can be coming back soon.
