Mitsubishi Shogun is an off-road full-size SUV and UK market version of the Mitsubishi Pajero. Shogun has a 3-door, and smaller version (either 3- or 5-door). Pinin version later in 1998, this was one of the other vehicle were built by Pininfarina in Italy.

Shogun powertrain uses exclusively with part-time 4WD (known as Super-Select with the introduction of second-gen). Engines initially powered mostly inline-4 (including diesel and turbocharged version); V6 variant was added in 1988 with the introduction of third-gen Inline-4 petrol version dropped in third to fourth but only in turbo-diesel also includes common rail. Second-gen Shogun added a 3-door and smaller version.

Third-gen Shogun added with PDI (petrol direct injection) for 3.5-litre. 4WD system was slight retweak. In 2002, Shogun receives a facelift with redesigned grille.

Foruth-gen Shogun has an improved version of Super Select includes ASC (with TC), and EBL. 3.8-litre V6 finally includes MIVEC. Facelift version received 2012 and 2015.

A unique motorsport and homologated variant for cross-country rally called the "Pajero Evolution" which meant have similarity with a saloon Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Shogun and Pajero (including Montero) was permanently discontinued in production in 2021, as the company is facing ongoing difficulties (including the exiting UK market in autumn of 2021).

  • In Series 25 (Old Top Gear), Jeremy roadtested the new second-gen Shogun in 3-door SUV where he likes the potential of being an off-roader and other roads. A down point is being impractical for 3-door (less room and no additional back seats) except the 5-door version.
  • The 3-door Shotgun appeared on the opening theme as transformation form from Ferrari 456 from Series 35 to Series 40 of Old Top Gear format.
  • In Clarkson's Car Years, a 5-door second-gen Shogun appears in archive clip from the Original format.
  • In Final Series 22 Episode, James picks the 3-door Pinin version mini-SUV. In a caravan attached race, James only sustained fewer damage with his caravan until the challenge abandoned due to scattered fragments done as they hit each other. However, he lost in drag race where he unable to reach 60 mph, also he didn't have enough much time to stop his SUV as he brake too hard just after he crossed the line and ends up diving into mudpool.

Trivia[]

  • In Spanish-speaking countries, the Pajero was badged as a "Montero", as Pajero is considered a swear word in the Spanish language.
