The Nepal Special was a special episode of the BBC motoring show Top Gear as the shows first Christmas Special since the 2016 reboot. The episode featured presenters Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff buy and use "future-proofed" city cars for less than £5000 before heading across Nepal to see which is best.

Overview[]

The presenters arrive in Nepal and are informed to buy what they believe to be the best city car for less than £5000. They travel from Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, passing through the Muktinath Temple and heading to the Forbidden City of Lo Manthang to see who's city car was best.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Top Gear Special since the Patagonia Special. It's also the first since Patagonia to be featured close to Christmas.
  • Where Harris and McGuinness followed the previous brief of bringing cars costing less than £5000 to Nepal, Flintoff opted to buy his car, when he arrived in Nepal. Something which has never been done in any previous Top Gear special.
  • This is the second Top Gear special following on from Bolivia where not all three cars completed the journey. When opting to use Flintoff's Mustang for a tow Harris' Renault's sticky handbrake failed, jumping out of gear causing the car to role backwards down the steep incline, before rolling over and expelling some of its fluids. It couldn’t be restarted and had to be abandoned. Harris later restored the car in his own garage.
