Quentin Willson was a presenter on the original format of Top Gear from Series 26 in 1991 through to Series 43 in 2000. He would appear in over 190 episodes and would mostly present the segment focusing on used car deals, but towards the end of his tenure and following the departure of main host Jeremy Clarkson, would also look at new cars alongside female presenter Kate Humble.

From 1994 - 1999, he would present spin-off show The Car's The Star, which ran for six series and 33 episodes. After leaving the show for reasons that were never fully disclosed in May 2000, he would enter talks with Richard Pearson, a producer and director who had left the BBC for Channel 5 in order to produce Fifth Gear, which would begin airing in April 2002. He would be joined by three other former presenters of Top Gear.

At the time of his departure in 2000, he was the longest serving host of the show, with 9 years as opposed to Tiff Needell's 13, but with far greater appearances during his time on Top Gear. As of 2019 he remains the 3rd most frequently appearing host.

Though never appearing on the relaunched version of Top Gear which premiered in October 2002, he is the namesake for the second corner of the Top Gear test track, Willson.
