"There was the Sonett, which was supposed to have been a sports car... but wasn't."
- James May on the Sonett, referring to all of Saab's past mistakes.

The Saab Sonett was a lightweight sports car produced by Swedish automobile manufacturer Saab from 1966 - 1974.

Appearances[]

Series 18, Episode 5[]

The Sonett's sole appearance throughout the entirety of Top Gear came in the fifth episode of the relaunched show's 18th series in 2012. A white 1971 example was photographed, either at dawn or dusk, in front of a countryside farmhouse. Its pop-up headlamps were flipped on and off for this short scene.

According to IMCDb member Fliptop, the particular example used in this episode was ABW 320K, a car sold initially in the US market and then imported to the UK in 1980 by the company itself for use in promotional materials. After a few years, the car was then sold to a family friend and restored, before given to his father following 20 years under its previous owner.
