The third episode of the first series of the Amazon motoring series The Grand Tour premiered on the 2nd of December, 2016. It was entitled Opera, Arts and Donuts. Filming for the studio segments of the show took place in Whitby in the United Kingdom.

Synopsis[]

Segments[]

The guys head to Italy for a road trip, with Clarkson bringing an Aston Martin DB11, May a Rolls Royce Dawn, and Hammond, being the odd one out, in a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Also, Hammond and May make good on their promise of demolishing Clarkson's house after he lost a bet in the first episode.

Track Test[]

None.

Celebrity Brain Crash[]

This week's guest is Simon Pegg, who is 'killed' by falling off a bridge and into the river whilst eating an ice cream.

Tent Location[]

For this episode, the tent was pitched in Whitby, England, the United Kingdom. Specifically, it was pitched near the River Esk overlooking the town. The following episode, Enviro-mental, was also filmed in Whitby.

Trivia[]

The Aston Martin DB11 that Clarkson drove is consistently mocked throughout the episode for appearing to be painted brown, while Clarkson claims that it is, in fact, "sunburst orange". This bit would come up again in Sea to Unsalty Sea, where May's BMW M8 has a similar paint colour to the DB11.

As a matter of fact, the DB11's performance counterpart, the DBS, would be driven by Clarkson in the very same episode.
