The first episode of the eleventh series of Top Gear aired on the 22nd of June, 2008. It was presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig. Due to the lower number of episodes, the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car segment was presented in a head-to-head format, pitting Alan Carr against Justin Lee Collins.
Synopsis[]
In the first episode of the series, Jeremy announces that Top Gear has returned and that this isn't a repeat, so long as the viewers at home are not watching Dave. In the event that they are, we are "reminded" of what the trio did during the summer series of 2008, highlighting what is to come in the next 6 weeks' worth of episodes. According to Clarkson, it's the "usual orgy of speed and three middle-aged men falling over a lot." That said, it has given the trio a problem. With petrol having risen to a then-high of £5.50 a gallon, the BBC have suggested the show is to focus on fuel economy and saving money. Unfortunately, the letter containing this information was opened by Jeremy, who gathered together 5 supercars and held a race to open up the 11th series of the show.
