The sixth and final episode of the eleventh series of Top Gear aired on the 27th of July, 2008. It was presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig. Jay Kay was the sole Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car for the first and only time in the series, though three other guest stars in the form of Sabine Schmitz, Tim Schrick, and Carsten van Ryssen appeared in the episode's main segment.
The main challenge for this episode, England vs. Germany, formed a crossover event with German car show D Motor, with the segment airing as part of Season 4, Episode 11 on DMAX.
Synopsis[]
Jeremy begins the final episode of the series by stating that during their recent trip to Japan, which we saw during the previous two episodes, Clarkson spent his time racing a bullet train with the then-new Nissan GT-R, before ripping it around the Fuji race circuit. James, on the other hand, decided to spend his time because driving a car which he thought was a lot more relevant to the average British motorist than a "jumped-up £50,000 Datsun".
Tonight...[]
- Richard spins off the track... twice...
- Jay Kay tries to get to number one...
- And Germany or Britain: which is best?
Trivia[]
- This episode was the third in a row to utilise footage from the 2008 filming sessions in Japan, which somewhat limited the coverage of topics present in Series 11 and may account for its loss of viewers.
- This episode marked the first crossover event between Top Gear and a foreign contemporary, in this case D Motor. The Top Gear Ashes and Top Gear: Festival Sydney would see the British and Australian broadcasting teams duel against each other, whereas Jeremy Clarkson's DVD-exclusive release Duel would pit Clarkson and The Stig against Fifth Gear hosts Tiff Needell and Vicki Butler-Henderson.
