Top Gear Wiki

The third episode of the sixteenth series of Top Gear aired on the 6th of February, 2011. It was presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig. Jonathan Ross was the guest star, who had previously appeared in Series 1, Episode 5 almost a decade prior.

Synopsis[]

Beginning the episode with yet another letter, as was the custom by this point, Jeremy Clarkson reads it out for the audience to hear and to give the upcoming segments some context. It states that it was written by a "leading light" of the Albanian Mafia, and that they're thinking of buying the new baby Rolls-Royce; the Ghost. However, he wants to know how the car compares against a Bentley or a Mercedes.

This apparently caused "one hell of a row" at the Top Gear office, wherein the production crew wanted the trio to go along with the mafioso's proposal and to go to Albania to answer his question. However, they protested at this notion, stating that they couldn't be seen to be helping the Mafia. They said it was their "line in the sand", and that they would not go.

Tonight...[]

  • A fat man gets murdered...
  • A donkey gets overtaken...
  • And James wears lady's underwear on his head.

Trivia[]

  • Due to Bentley being unwilling to give the show an actual Mulsanne, a Yugo Zastava was substituted in its place. This stunt did not please Bentley.
