Harris and new presenters McGuinness and Flintoff each are given a budget of £4000 and purchase what was their first cars, taking them on a road trip across Ethiopia.

Upon arriving, they each take turns introducing their first cars. Paddy went for a Ford Escort Mk. II, which he bought for £2,100 and had to buy it in Gauteng, since Ford Escorts in Britain are £10,000-£30,000. Chris went for a Mini Cooper 998CC, which bought it for £3,300 and was actually a younger version of his original car. Freddie went for a Porsche Boxster, which he bought for £3,700. It was technically the very first car he bought at 22, since, as a former cricketer, he had driven leased or sponsored cars. A monk then hands Paddy a challenge card: Drive through the vast Simien Mountain Range to the Afar Triangle, birthplace of humankind and the hottest place on Earth.
