Star in a Reasonably-Fast Car is the successor to Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car & Stars in a Rallycross Car segments which had previously appeared on the show. During the transition to Series 24 the Rally Cross Mini Cooper was replaced with a Toyota GT86 and laps were once again performed on the Top Gear Test Track.
From Series 24 to 26, Chris Harris was shown taking guests for their laps in the GT86, often berating them for not driving properly. Due to the sudden transition, several guests who weren't shown performed timed laps on the spinoff show Extra Gear. The segment was discontinued to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
