Subaru Legacy is a mid-size car built by Japanese automaker Subaru since 1989. Although the car was globally discontinued in 2020, North American models continued the Legacy line-up with a new seventh-gen model. The Legacy was made as a competitor to the Mitsubishi Galant.

The Legacy was initially sold as a saloon, but the estate body style was later made available. The first two generations of the Legacy had FWD drivetrain, with an option for AWD. By the introduction of the third-gen model, the FWD drivetrain was dropped in favour of AWD (or 4WD). Subaru used an EJ flat-4 engine in the Legacy, displacing at 1.8 to 2.5-litre with turbocharged (both single or twin) and diesel engine variations, which was later used in smaller Subaru Impreza and later the WRX STi. There was also a larger 3.6-litre engine, but it was naturally-aspirated only.

The first-gen Legacy competed in rallying with the partnership of Prodrive whlist helping to achieve the competition to WRC. In 1993, the Legacy was replaced by the Subaru Impreza which achieved a win in the manufacturer championship, thanks to notable Scottish rally driver Colin McRae, who drove two Subarus.

In 2020, the Legacy's global production phased out, although production of the Legacy continues in North America with a seventh-gen model.

The Subaru Legacy is one of of the few cars to earn praise from Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
