The Perfect Road Trip 2 was the name of the sixth and final direct-to-video Top Gear special, and the eighth and final release to feature exclusive scenarios not recorded for the series. It starred Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, with the latter's appearance technically making it the 19th and final entry in his home video series. Once more, James May did not make an appearance, as it is likely he was simultaneously filming the first series of Cars of the People, which would begin airing in August 2014, three months prior.

Synopsis[]

Much like its immediate predecessor, The Perfect Road Trip, this special is centred around Richard & Jeremy's quest for the perfect road trip, which naturally sees the pair head to Italy once more, the country described by Jeremy as "God's personal racetrack."

The special begins with Jeremy reminiscing over the previous "Perfect" Road Trip, which prematurely ended once the French constabulary had taken away their licences due to reckless driving. Their lesson learned, Jeremy & Richard thought that they would do the road trip again, to the extent that the post-introductory sequence commences in exactly the same way, with the pair on a Riva Aquarama heading towards Venice. Jeremy assures the viewers not to adjust their sets, with Richard stating that there are to be some "major differences" between the original road trip and what they're about to see.

The most notable of these differences is that, in light of the outcome of the previous special, the pair will not be heading to France, instead staying in Italy throughout. They are to travel southbound from Venice, through Tuscany and Rome, and finish on the Amalfi Coast. The cars are different this time around as well, with many examples being brand new for the year they were filmed, such as the Alfa Romeo 4C and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible.
