Toyota Carina is a compact car built by Toyota from 1970 to 2001. Carina is the saloon version of the Toyota Celica. Like the Celica, Carina initially with FR layout by fourth-gen is shifted to FF layout.

Common engines are inline-4 from 1.4 to 2-litre; diesel in 1.9 to 2.2-litre. Valvetrain is OHV up to third-gen by fourth-gen uses fuel-injection with the newer A and S-series engine but increases dimension with differ styling from Toyota Corolla.

A high-performance version also produced as Carina E GTi

In Europe, initially as Carina II but an additional of Avensis from 1997 before being separated simply without the Carina badge.

In 2001, Carina stopped production for and succeeding as Avensis in Europe (Allion in Japan).

  • In 1992 Old Top Gear episode, Chris Goffey reviews the Carina E where he praises for being efficient under in lean-burn mixture, reasonable to drive, etc.
  • In 1994 Old Top Gear episode, Quentin Willson ranks the Carina E on top 3 for it's reliabilty and overall satisification.
