Volkswagen New Beetle is a compact car built by the Volkswagen from 1997 to 2011. The New Beetle was a long successor to the Volkswagen Beetle as being redesigned.
Unlike the original Beetle, the drivetrain uses an FF layout with the optional all-wheel drive as 4motion system. Engines come with the inline-4 both petrol and turbo-diesel, but the VR5 and VR6 was exclusively for petrol including the 1.8-litre turbocharged. Gearbox includes the 6-speed DSG and tiptronic as well.
The 2003-model the New Beetle offered a convertible version. In 2005. the New Beetle received it's facelift model with revised front/rear bumpers, wheels, lamps, etc.
There are the special edition of the New beetle from RSi to Final Edition with the upgraded wheels, suspension and drivetrain.
In 2011, the New Beetle ended it's production and replaced the A5 Beetle albeit being redesign on the B-pillar.
Appearances[]
- In 1997 Old Top Gear episode, Jeremy Clarkson reviews the New Beetle. He praises the spacious headroom and fun to drive but criticises upon moving backwards on the seat as unreachable pedals and the rear visibility, then he recalls the original Beetle origin, and he compares it.
- In One for the Road, after catching wind that the boys were in Zimbabwe, Andy Wilman provides a New Beetle as the back-up car. Jeremy attempts to sell it but not one person is willing to buy it. Ultimately, they would destroy the New Beetle in a contrived fashion (as usual) and opt for the Rover SD1 to be used instead, a car in which they all respect.
